Free Spirit Publishing Relies on Hot Backup for D3 Windows for Quick Recovery from System Failure
Free Spirit Publishing produces books and learning materials for children and teens. Utilizing 40 employees and a 19-user D3 9.0 system for Windows, Free Spirit Publishing runs customized D3 software for Order Entry, Accounts Receivable and Inventory Control applications.
"To ensure that we could recover quickly from a system crash, we decided to upgrade to the latest D3 offering and set up a second machine as a Hot Backup system," said Greg Iverson, IT Administrator at Free Spirit Publishing. "I built the backup machine, purchased the Hot Backup license and within a few hours had everything up and running. Prior to the installation of our D3 Hot Backup, only a disk-image backup of our D3 system was performed nightly using Windows software. A system failure could have potentially lost us a day's work by having to revert to an image backup from the previous night. Possibly having to set up a new hard drive or complete system, plus get the disk image restored quickly."
"It's amazing to see how every update made to the primary system nearly instantly propagates to the Hot Backup system," continues Iverson. "Now, if the main system goes down, we simply change the IP address on the Hot Backup system and the users can connect via telnet as usual, and they're good to go. What's also nice about the Hot Backup implementation is we can specify which files to include or exclude, saving system resources from backing up files that are not needed."
Iverson concludes "Whether there are 19 users or 400, I would highly recommend a D3 Hot Backup system. It's definitely worth the price of admission for peace of mind."
