TigerLogic's D3 Database Instrumental in Fivefold Expansion of Insurance Brokering Services Company
Coversure Insurance Services is a group of independent insurance intermediaries with locations throughout the United Kingdom, generating sales of £100 million per annum. Each branch is managed and owned by a local franchise holder. The franchises are supported by central resources for sales development, compliance, accountancy and IT.
The challenge was to provide a centrally managed IT system to support the needs of a hundred separate businesses each with their own distinct customer base. The specialized software Coversure developed for the insurance industry provides a fully integrated set of applications including the provision of quotations, client administration, back office accounting, electronic data interchange and management information. Third party products, such as Microsoft Word, are seamlessly integrated into the applications as is access to external databases such as the UK Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority.
TigerLogic's D3 database management system for Windows is the primary platform Coversure uses for its applications. D3 provides Coversure the feature rich, flexible, and reliable database environment they need, with the added benefit of low cost of ownership. Coversure also uses TigerLogic's FlashCONNECT connectivity component to provide alternative access methods to the D3 database from the internet. The ability to duplicate data structures on a single system provides the basis to both operate multiple franchises as separate businesses, and to consolidate data for management information purposes. The overall solution is a sophisticated, adaptable and low cost environment.
"The system we designed has allowed us to provide facilities management to the franchise holders, removing from them all the worries associated with running local computer systems. Users do not need to think about operational aspects like data backup, nor do they need to consider the need for software or hardware updates. Management has easy and real-time access to business information," explained Martin Taylor, IT Director for Coversure.
