ChunkIt! Media Center

There's an old expression about trying to find a needle in a haystack. Given the pace at which the Internet is growing, that old phrase applies perfectly to the experience of searching the Web today.

Really. Think about it for a minute. Years ago, when search engines Yahoo, and later Google, hit the scene, they did an excellent job at solving a growing problem: finding relevant information stored on the "Information Super Highway." But that was then - before the days of blogs and podcasts, MySpace and Wikipedia, Flickr and YouTube. Today's Internet is busier than ever - more than 650 million domain registrations and growing. Finding relevant items, even in a Google search, can be frustrating and time consuming.

TigerLogic Corporation (formerly Raining Data) has announced the private beta testing of an Internet browser-based application that takes conventional search engine results to a new level - it's called "ChunkIt!." Think of it as X-ray vision for Web search, a product that can "see" behind the search links and extract valuable "chunks" of information contained in the target pages that meet your search criteria. It even highlights the chunks relevant to your query - content in context, if you will. If the site isn't offering what you're looking for, don't even bother to click on it.

No, we're not trying to replace Google or Yahoo, or any other search engine. In fact, we're trying to improve them by offering a so-called superboost to the results. We're offering fewer clicks, better results and improved efficiency for searchers. And we're doing it without asking you to switch from your favorite search engine. And what's better is you can also use ChunkIt! to see beyond the links embedded in any Web page.

Check out the demonstration video to the right. If you like what you see, then sign up for the private beta test. We'll be selecting people at random to give it a spin and provide feedback before making publicly available in the coming months. We'd love to hear your feedback after using ChunkIt! to find your little bitty needles in a great big haystack.
